34. Highlights from the 2024 Elgin County Women’s Leadership Conference

You can probably tell from the smiles on our faces that we had a blast at the conference, organized by the Jean Collective.

Moderating the panel discussion with inspiring women changemakers from our community was truly an amazing experience. From our Member of Parliament, Karen Vecchio, to local councillors, government officials, and advocates for women in politics, each panelist brought valuable insights to the table.

Reflecting on the conference, one quote resonates deeply with me, “Empowered people empower people.” It is a rephrase of the pin shared at the conference. This quote has prompted me to ask myself two important questions:

• How am I investing in myself?

• How am I helping others shine?

The truth is I do not have to be a politician or government official for these questions to matter.

I just need to be me, right where I’m at. To recognize that I am influenced by and also influence those around me. To recognize that time is the scarcest and most unpredictable thing that I have.

This quote might just be the biggest takeaway from the conference for me.
