36. Key mindsets for a successful non-profit strategic planning process
1. We win through process, not just output.
It is very easy to get caught up in just finishing the strategic plan document. But the real magic lies in how we get there. Whilst we may have preconceived ideas for our strategic plan, it is important that we make room to build the plan with others.
2. We harness data to inform our decisions.
Before we start designing solutions, we need to step back and gather some facts. Understanding where we stand, how things are changing, and what we need to succeed helps us make smart choices. Collecting data is just the start—it is about really listening to what that data tells us and using it to guide our future steps.
3. We balance aspiration with realism.
Dreaming big is essential! But it is just as important to keep those dreams realistic. Let’s aim high without losing our footing. This requires us to be realistic about our current and foreseeable resources and constraints.
Embracing these mindsets helps lay a solid foundation for a successful strategic planning process. In our DIY Strategic Plan program, we will walk you through the other four mindsets and provide resources, templates, scripts, and tools you need to craft a successful non-profit strategic plan.
